Bumkins All-in-One One-Size Cloth Diaper Review

I am not a big fan of stuffing inserts back inside pocket diapers. However, when I recently saw the prints available from Bumkins, in particular the Green Eggs and Ham print, I decided to give the brand a try. Instead of a pocket diaper, however, I decided to try the Bumkins all-in-one one-size cloth diaper. And, even though I prefer my two-in-one diapers like my much beloved Best Bottoms, I liked the idea of an attached insert that would not get lost in the wash.

Green Eggs and Ham Bumkins All-in-One One-Size Cloth Diaper Snaps on the Bumkins All-in-One Diaper

The Bumkins all-in-one one-size is my first ever all-in-one diaper. I chose the Green Eggs and Ham print because my daughter loves the color green and I love the Dr. Seuss book by the same name. Other adorable prints from Bumkins include the Cat in the Hat, owls, and One Fish, Two Fish.

As a one-size diaper, the Bumkins all-in-one features three rows of four torso snaps that allow the diaper to be sized from small to medium to large. At twenty-one pounds, my daughter still fits into the medium setting. The smallest setting should fit a baby as little as eight pounds or so. The largest setting should fit a toddler up to thirty-five pounds or so. Because my daughter fits into the medium size at her current weight, I am confident that the Bumkins all-in-one will last her through potty training.

Bumkins All-in-One Diaper Torso Snaps

Unlike a pocket diaper with removable inserts, the Bumkins all-in-one features a fold-out soaker panel. The inside fold-out panel consists of two layers of blended cotton and bamboo rayon for absorbency, breathability, and comfort. The panel snaps into place but can be left unsnapped so that extra inserts can be inserted inside the diaper for customized absorbency. The fold-out panel is specially designed for faster drying. The Bumkins all-in-one diaper also consists of a waterproof outer layer and a stay dry fleece interior that surrounds the blended cotton and bamboo rayon panel.

The fold-out panel on the Bumkins all-in-one is incredibly easy to use. When the diaper is dirty, simple unsnap the interior snaps, pull the panel out, and wash the diaper as usual. Bumkins can be dried in the dryer on low heat. However, I usual allow my diaper to air dry until pretty much dry. I then throw the diaper in the dryer on low heat for a few minutes to make sure that all of the moisture is evaporated. I do not have to do anything else special to wash and dry my Bumkins all-in-one.

Fold-Out Soaker Snaps on the Bumkins All-in-One Diaper Interior of the Bumkins All-in-One One-Size Diaper

As far as fit goes, the Bumkins all-in-one fits my daughter pretty well. I have not had any problems with leaking due to the fit. The leg elastic is super stretchy. Although I prefer a double gusset on my cloth diaper, the stretchy leg elastic does a great job of keeping the diaper snug around the legs, so I have not had any problems with the lack of double leg gusset. The only aspect of the Bumkins all-in-one that I do not like is the flap on the front of the inside that covers the fold-out panel. Sometimes the flap likes to wiggle up, which can cause wicking problems. However, as long as I make sure that the flap is tucked all the way down, I do not have any problems with leaking.

All in all, I am really happy with my Bumkins all-in-one. I particularly love the convenience of the attached fold-out soaker panel that does not get lost in the wash. I also love that I can stick another insert inside the diaper if needed. For example, one early morning when my daughter had dirtied all of her overnight diapers but needed a diaper change, I grabbed my Bumkins all-in-one, stuck a second insert inside the pocket, and put my daughter back to bed. After almost five hours, the diaper had not leaked.

Front of the Bumkins All-in-One Diaper Leg Fit of the Bumkins All-in-One Diaper

My daughter and I give the Bumkins all-in-one one-size cloth diaper four thumbs up. At $16.95, Bumkins is reasonably priced for a fairly high quality. If I were going to buy any more all-in-one diapers, I would definitely be interested in some more Bumkins. The Bumkins all-in-one one-size is a great cloth diaper for a great price.

Bitti Tutto Cloth Diaper Review

Bitti Tutto by Itti Bitti is a one-size cloth diaper that functions as either an all-in-one or an all-in-two. I am a huge fan of my all-in-two Best Bottom diapers and like my all-in-one Bumkins diaper. I had also heard really good things about Bitti Tutto as an overnight diaper because of the bamboo inserts. In fact, when I had bought my Bitti Tutto, I had been in the process of looking for a better overnight nighttime cloth diaper solution aside from pocket diapers overstuffed with multiple inserts. Thus, I decided to splurge and spent the rather pricey $26.95 on a fuchsia Bitti Tutto.

Front of Fuchsia Bitti Tutto Back of Fuchsia Bitti Tutto

My first impression of the Bitti Tutto is that the exterior minky is incredibly soft. I have owned only one minky diaper before, and I did enjoy the texture. I also really liked the bright pink fuchsia color, which was fun and girly for my daughter. The diaper is also waterproof, so no cover is needed. As far as the look of the diaper goes, the only thing that I am not fond of is the white snaps on the waist. The rest of the snaps match the color of the diaper. I just wish that the waist snaps also matched. The Bitti Tutto also comes in a rainbow of eighteen total colors as well as some seasonal prints.

Torso Snaps of Bitti Tutto

Unlike the majority of cloth diapers available on the market, the Bitti Tutto promises to fit babies and toddlers as small as eight pounds and as large as forty-four pounds. In other words, the Bitti Tutto should fit most young children well past potty training! To adjust the size of the diaper, simply use the four rows of three torso snaps to size the diaper to extra small, small, medium, and large. Right now, my daughter weights about twenty-two pounds, and I have the Bitti Tutto set to the medium setting. I agree that the diaper should last through potty training. However, on my daughter at least, I am skeptical about the forty-four pound claims.

Inside of Bitti Tutto Inserts of Bitti Tutto

The feature that makes the Bitti Tutto either an all-in-one or an all-in-two diaper is the snap-in inserts. My diaper came with a single set of three bamboo soaker pads. Microfiber inserts are also available, although I would have opted for the bamboo anyway over the microfiber. With the three snap-in inserts, you can customize the absorbency of the Bitti Tutto to suit your baby. When my diaper first arrived, I must admit that I was rather overwhelmed by the inserts. Although the Itti Bitti website offers some suggestions for using the inserts, there is currently no illustrated guide. Even with the written instructions, I am absolutely confused. Pictures showing the different configurations would be so much more helpful.

Bitti Tutto Inserts Configuring the Bitti Tutto Inserts

After playing around for a bit, I finally did figure out a configuration for the snap-in inserts that works for my daughter. Because I had decided to use my Bitti Tutto as an all-in-one, I just left the inserts snapped in place when I tossed the diaper in with the rest of my diaper laundry. However, once I took all my clean diapers out of the dryer, I was dismayed to find that the inserts had popped out of the diaper. I have to admit that I was a bit irritated that I had to figure out the configuration of the inserts again. Furthermore, the inserts continue to snap off in the wash and dryer, so the Bitti Tutto is really only an all-in-two rather than an all-in-one.

Bitti Tutto Inserts Configured for Girl

As far as the fit goes, I really like the Bitti Tutto for my daughter. The crotch is slightly narrower than some of her other diapers, which works well for her body shape. I also love the “poo fence” around the interior of the diaper, which is supposed to help keep blowouts from escaping the diaper. And I can attest that the poo fence works great. I put the Bitti Tutto on my daughter when she was sick and having multiple runny poops each day. The poo fence successfully contained all of the nasty poop without a problem.

Poo Fence on Legs of Bitti Tutto

The main reason that I bought the Bitti Tutto in the first place was because I was looking for another overnight diaper. For the average baby, the Bitti Tutto would work well overnight. My daughter was still free of leaks after nine hours. However, after her more usual twelve hours of sleep, the diaper was leaking a bit, so I personally cannot use the Bitti Tutto for overnight. However, in general, the Bitti Tutto would be great for overnight use.

Front of Bitti Tutto Side of Bitti Tutto

In general, I think that the Bitti Tutto is a pretty good diaper. However, rather than a true all-in-one, the diaper is definitely more of a two-in-one because of the problem with the inserts unsnapping in the washer and dryer. The Bitti Tutto also effectively contains wetness and messes. However, I find that configuring the snap-in inserts is a bit more complicated than necessary. Therefore, although definitely a good diaper, the retail price of $26.95 is definitely more expensive than the diaper deserves. If you want to pay a lot of a pretty good diaper, then the Bitti Tutto is for you. However, I personally would not recommend the Bitti Tutto except maybe for overnight use.

Ecobumz All-In-One Cloth Diaper Review

$

In my house, our favorite cloth diapers are our all-in-two Best Bottoms. I personally am not a fan of pocket diapers, but I do like all-in-one diapers. So, when I recently received an Ecobumz all-in-one cloth diaper from ZiggleBaby to review, I was excited for the opportunity to try out a different kind of all-in-one. Of all the diapers currently in my stash, I own two other all-in-ones. My Bumkins all-in-one features an attached insert that pulls out for easier washing. However, for me, stuffing the insert back inside is too much like stuffing a pocket diaper. My Bitti Tutto is also more like an all-in-two than an all-in-one because the inserts always come unsnapped during washing.

My new Ecobumz diaper that I received from ZiggleBaby truly is an all-in-one diaper. At first glance, the Ecobumz all-in-one looks like a pocket diaper. Upon closer inspection, however, you discover that the soaker pad is sewn inside the diaper. An opening at the back of the diaper does allow for the insertion of extra inserts, but the single attached soaker is definitely absorbent enough to use alone without having to deal with the peskiness of stuffing in additional inserts. The materials used for the Ecobumz all-in-one diaper are synthetic, which I actually prefer, but ZiggleBaby does also offer a natural fiber diaper made from bamboo.

Back Opening of Ecobumz All-In-One Cloth Diaper Hip Closure of Ecobumz All-In-One Cloth Diaper

The Ecobumz all-in-one that I received features an aplix closure. I generally prefer snaps because my daughter can easily open and get out of an aplix diaper, so I must admit that I was a bit concerned about the closure of my new Ecobumz all-in-one. When worn under clothes, the aplix works pretty well. However, I could never use this diaper on my toddler daughter without putting pants or onesies on over her diaper. Unless your toddler has no interest in removing his or her diaper, then I recommend the aplix Ecobumz all-in-one only for younger babies.

Although I am not a fan of aplix closures, I do like the way that the aplix on the Ecobumz all-in-one works. Unlike many other non-snap diapers that require one side of the closure to line up with the other side of the closure, the aplix of the Ecobumz all-in-one attaches to anywhere of the outside of the diaper. With a wiggly toddler, I can definitely get a great fit around the waist without having to worry about lining up the closure sides perfectly. The flexibility of this diaper also means that babies of all shapes and sizes can find a good fit.

Leg Gussets of Ecobumz All-In-One Cloth Diaper Front of Ecobumz All-In-One Cloth Diaper

Side of Ecobumz All-In-One Cloth Diaper  Adjusting the Ecobumz All-In-One Cloth Diaper

The Ecobumz all-in-one is a sized diaper that does offer some adjustment options. Although I generally prefer a one-size diaper over a sized diaper because I do not want to have to buy all new diapers every time my daughter grows bigger, the Ecobumz all-in-one can be sized down by folding down the top of the front. Because the aplix closure attaches to anywhere on the outside of the diaper, folding down the top does not affect the waist closure. My daughter currently weighs about 23 pounds, but I could have used the Ecobumz all-in-one on her when she was a bit smaller and can continue to use this diaper on her when she gets a bit bigger.

ZiggleBaby currently offers just six colors of the Ecobumz all-in-one: sky blue, tangerine orange, razzle red, lemon yellow, majesty purple, and bubble gum pink. I received the razzle red, which is indeed a brilliant red color. I would like to see the company offer a wide variety of colors, but the current limited number does offer a good collection for the parent seeking to put together a basic stash.

Front of Smallest Setting of Ecobumz All-In-One Cloth Diaper Back of Smallest Setting of Ecobumz All-In-One Cloth Diaper

Now that I have used my Ecobumz all-in-one diaper on my daughter for a few weeks, I can definitely point out some of the features that I like and some of the features that I do not like. First, I love the insert design of this all-in-one diaper. I like that the soaker pad is sewn inside and that I do not have to mess with stuffing the insert back inside after every wash. With my cloth diaper laundry routine, the Ecobumz all-in-one takes about ninety minutes to dry in the dryer, which is the same length of time that the rest of my inserts require, so I have no problem with drying the Ecobumz all-in-one. Second, although I am not a huge fan of aplix closures, I do like the way in which the hip closure can attach to anywhere on the outside of the Ecobumz all-in-one rather than needing to line up with the opposite side.

However, there are a few features of the Ecobumz all-in-one of which I am not a fan. I generally prefer double leg gussets on my cloth diapers, but the Ecobumz all-in-one has only a single leg gusset. I have had some problems with leaks around the legs because of the lack of double leg gussets. However, with that said, I have not had any problems with poopy diapers with my Ecobumz all-in-one. Despite the lack of double leg gussets, this diaper does sufficiently contain solid toddler poop. Exclusively breastfed poop might be a different story for which I do not currently have a definitive answer. Second, I am not completely sold on the sizing of this diaper. I love the idea behind the Ecobumz all-in-one but would like to see a one-size version with torso snaps.

Final Verdict: If you like sized all-in-one diapers with aplix closures, then the Ecobumz all-in-one might be the diaper for you. I personally prefer snap closures on a one-size diaper, but I do truly like the all-in-one design of the Ecobumz all-in-one cloth diaper. An attached soaker pad eliminates the hassle of stuffing pockets, which is a huge plus for me. If you are looking for a size all-in-one diaper with aplix closures, then do give the Ecobumz all-in-one a try.

Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper Review and Giveaway

Bumkins Finer Baby Products

Bumkins recently offered me a chance to the review the new Bumkins snap-in-one diaper in the new adorable Turtle print. Because I had been so pleased with the Bumkins all-in-one one-size diaper that I had bought for myself to try, I immediately jumped at the chance to review another Bumkins diaper.

Bumkins Snap-in-One Diapers

The Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is a cross between the Bumkins all-in-one and a pocket diaper. I received one Bumkins snap-in-one diaper and one two-pack of cotton-bamboo-rayon blend snap-in inserts. Currently available in four cute prints and colors, my Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is the Turtle print, which is a green diaper with green, blue, and white turtles and white snaps. Because my daughter loves the color green and because she loves turtles, she absolutely loves the print of this diaper. I also think that the turtle print is absolutely adorable!

Unopened Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper and Snap Inserts Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper and Snap Inserts

How does the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper differ from other cloth diapers? Similar to the Bumkins all-in-one, the Bumkins snap-in-one features a soft detachable minky insert that snaps into the inside of the diaper. The insert then folds out for easier washing and faster drying. Like a pocket diaper, however, the soaker insert of the Bumkins snap-in-one unsnaps from the inside of the pocket. In addition to the snap-in minky insert that comes with the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper, Bumkins also offers an optional two-pack of cotton-bamboo-rayon snap-in inserts. The inserts work with both the Bumkins snap-in-one and the Bumkins all-in-one.

Extra Insert of the Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper Snapping in the Insert of the Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper

Inside of Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper with Unstuffed Insert Stuffing the Insert in the Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper

I am not a huge fan of pocket diapers because I hate stuffing and unstuffing the inserts on laundry day. I like the Bumkins all-in-one because the inserts remains attached to the diaper during washing. I still have to stuff the insert back inside, but I do not have to hunt for the insert in my pile of clean diapers. The Bumkins snap-in-one diaper offers me the best of both the Bumkins all-in-one and a pocket diaper because I can choose which insert I want to use. If I want a minky insert, I can use the snap-in minky insert. If I want a cotton-bamboo-rayon insert, then I can use the snap-in cotton-bamboo-rayon insert. I can also use the Bumkins snap-in-one shell as a pocket diaper and stuff any number of insert combinations inside.

Inside the Pocket of the Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper Leg Gussets of the Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper

Another great feature of the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is that the snap-in insert need not be stuffed inside the pocket. As I already said, I dislike pocket diaper because of the need to stuff the inserts in. Just snap the insert in but leave the insert unstuffed. I particularly like the super soft minky right up against my daughter’s sensitive skin. I also love the convenience of not needing to stuff the snap-in insert inside the pocket.

As a one-size diaper, the Bumkins snap-in-one features three rows of four torso snaps that allow the diaper to be sized from small to medium to large. At twenty-five pounds, my daughter still fits into the medium setting but the large setting fits her best. The smallest setting should fit a baby as little as seven pounds. The largest setting should fit a toddler up to thirty-two pounds. Because my daughter fits into the medium and large sizes at her current weight, I am confident that the Bumkins snap-in-one will last her through potty training.

Waist and Hip Snaps of the Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper Torso Snaps of the Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper

Largest Setting of the Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper Smallest Setting of the Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper

How well does the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper work? The first time that I used my new Bumkins snap-in-one on my diaper, I used all three inserts stuffed into the pocket for overnight use. Because my daughter sleeps up to twelve hours without wanting a diaper change at night, I need a diaper that offers superior absorbency and leak protection. In the morning, I pleasantly discovered that the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper held in all the wetness throughout the night without any leaks or wicking. Any diaper that keeps my daughter try from bedtime through morning is a winner in my reference book on parenting.

During the day, the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is also a great fit on my daughter. With just wet diapers, the Bumkins snap-in-one lasts between two and four hours. With her first pee of the day, my daughter sometimes soaks through even my beloved Best Bottoms. However, I did not have any problems with the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper leaking, even with her first wet diaper. The Bumkins snap-in-one also worked great to contain poopy messes, even the mess after a meal that included prunes. My daughter and I both rate the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper very highly in terms of efficiency and absorbency.

Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper on Toddler 1 Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper on Toddler 2

Final Verdict: My daughter and I give the new Bumkins snap-in-one diaper four enthusiastic thumbs up. As a fan of simpler diapers that do not require stuffing, I love the way in which the insert of the Bumkins snap-in-one snaps onto the diaper. I also love that I can leave the super soft and super absorbent inserts laying inside the diaper instead of stuffed into the pocket. With a few extra inserts stuffed inside, the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is also a great overnight diaper for a baby who sleeps up to twelve hours without a diaper change. If you are looking for an innovative all-in-two/all-in-one diaper, I highly recommend the brand new Bumkins snap-in-one diaper. You will not be disappointed!

Welcome to the Daily Diaper, an ongoing feature of The Parenting Patch in which I share photographs of the diapers in my cloth diaper stash in action. When I am considering adding a new diaper to my stash, I like to look at pictures of the diaper in use to get a better feel for the diaper. (Please pardon any blurriness; my model does not always want to hold still.) Today my diaper of the day is the amethyst (purple) all-in-one diaper from Diaper Rite.

Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 Cloth Diaper Review

Funky Fluff is the only cloth diaper on the market designed as an all-in-one, all-in-two, and pocket diaper all in one convenient diaper. My absolutely favorite type of diaper is the all-in-two. I also like certain types all-in-ones. Pocket diapers are not my cup of tea because I hate stuffing in the inserts, so I end up using my small stash of pockets as covers. A single diaper that is three types of diapers in one intrigues me. Thus, when recently offered the chance to review the new Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0, I eagerly accepted the opportunity.

I received a Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 in green and purple, which is a lime green diaper with purple snaps around the waist and green torso snaps. The inner of the diaper is a suedecloth, which does not pill like more conventional microfiber. Suedecloth wicks moisture away from the skin while resisting stains. I also received two snap-in soakers: a light soaker and a heavy soaker. The light soaker consists of three layers of microfiber and a layer of Stay Dry fabric. The heavy soaker consists of four layers of microfiber and a layer of Stay Dry fabric. The heavy soaker is also longer than the light soaker and features a crease line for folding for easier use in smaller settings of the diaper. The Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 diaper with soakers retails for $19.02 and comes in myriad color combinations.

The Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 is an updated version of the original Funky Fluff Stay Dry three-in-one. Updated features include the following:

  • Slimmer design in the middle of the diaper for ultimate trimness
  • Slightly wider elastics around the back for comfier fit
  • Elimination of double gussets resulting in less bulk and building on the all-in-two concept (soakers sit on top of the shell nice and flat without gussets in the way)
  • 2.0 soakers are more narrow to fit the new shell

I never tried the original version, so my experience with the Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 is completely knew. However, after just a couple of weeks of using the three-in-one diaper on my daughter, I can already say that I am absolutely pleased.

Although I generally prefer double gussets over single gussets on the legs of my cloth diapers, I have found that the updated single gussets on the Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 work just as well as many of my other diapers with double gussets. I am able to comfortably use both the heavy and the light soaker inside the diaper for overnight use on my daughter. Both inserts lay inside the diaper without too much added bulk. Although I have no comparison to the original version of the diaper, I can honestly say that the single gussets work perfectly on the Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 to contain messes and moisture.

Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 as Two-in-One

The Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 features four rows of two torso snaps that allow the diaper to convert between newborn, small, medium, and large sizes. At around 26 pounds, my daughter wears the diaper on the large setting during the night with two soakers and the medium setting during the day with one soaker. Funky Fluff all-in-three diapers promise to fit babies between 7 and 35+ pounds. I am confident that the Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 will continue to fit my daughter through potty training, especially during the day but also overnight.

In addition to the torso snaps, the Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 also features two rows of ten snaps around the waist plus hip snaps help to prevent wing droop. My twenty-nine month old daughter wears the diaper with three sets of waist snaps exposed. In other words, she has plenty of room to grow wider around the middle in the Funky Fluff three-in-one. Cross-over snaps on the waist additionally allow the diaper to fit newborns and infants as small as 7 pounds, making Funky Fluff an extremely versatile diaper that fits from birth through potty training for most kids.

Front Inside Snap of Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 Back Inside Snap of Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0

I absolutely love the versatility of the Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0. As my readers knows, I love all-in-two diapers. I have thus been using my Funky Fluff three-in-one as an all-in-two. During the day, I snap the larger soaker in on top of the diaper. At night, I snap both soakers in, one on each side with the smaller soaker under the larger soaker, for an overnight diaper with plenty of absorbency. On laundry day, I toss the entire diaper into the washer. Usually at least one of the soakers unsnaps in the wash. I then hang the diaper to dry and toss the clean soakers into the dryer. Using the Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 as an all-in-two is super easy. Plus, the diaper works like charm to contain messes and moisture both during the day and overnight.

I really have no complaints with the Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0. The only minor annoyance is that one of the two soakers usually unsnaps during washing. If I were using the diaper as an all-in-one, I might be more irritated that the soakers detach from the diaper. However, because I usually use all-in-two diapers, that the soaker unsnaps from the diaper during washing is no big deal. In fact, when one or both detaches, I save a little time when moving the inserts into the dryer and hanging the diaper up on my drying rack.

Another new feature of the updated Funky Fluff three-in-one is that customers can now buy the shells and soakers separately. I personally prefer Stay Dry diapers and Stay Dry inserts over bamboo. However, now Funky Fluff allows customers the option of buying the shells and soakers in a combination of Stay Dry and bamboo. You can now buy all Stay Dry, all Bamboo, or a combination of the two. Funky Fluff offers the flexibility that you crave when diapering your baby.

Final Verdict: Attesting to the high quality of the Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0, my three-in-one diaper is now in rotation in my overnight stash for my diaper. By using the two soakers to create a double-stuffed all-in-two, Funky Fluff keeps my daughter dry and comfortable for up to twelve hours at night. The diaper is both easy-to-use and versatile, converting from newborn to large sizes and between pocket, all-in-two, and all-in-one settings. At $19.02 for a shell and two inserts, Funky Fluff is comparatively priced to other similar diapers. If you are searching for a versatile and functional cloth diaper, I highly recommend the updated Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0.

Smart Bottoms Smart One 3.0 and 3.1 All-in-One Cloth Diaper Comparison Review

Front of Smart Bottoms Spicy Tuna Smart One 3.0 and Superhero Smart One 3.1

Although I am a huge fan of all-in-two cloth diapers, I have recently ventured into the world of all-in-ones. About a month ago, Smart Bottoms offered some seconds sales on the Smart One 3.0 and Smart One 3.1 all-in-one cloth diapers. I purchased a 3.0 in Spicy Tuna (teal green with orange snaps and a 3.1 in Superhero (red with blue snaps) to compare and review.

Front of Smart Bottoms Spicy Tuna Smart One 3.0 and Superhero Smart One 3.1 Back of Smart Bottoms Spicy Tuna Smart One 3.0 and Superhero Smart One 3.1

Both the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1 offer similar, if not identical, features. The 3.1 is the updated version of the discontinued 3.0. The 3.1 currently retails for $25 per diaper while the 3.0 is no longer available new from Smart Bottoms. The retail price of the 3.0 was also $25, but the company now sells only seconds of the 3.0 at a current price of $18.

Front of Smart Bottoms Spicy Tuna Smart One 3.0 Back of Smart Bottoms Spicy Tuna Smart One 3.0

Front of Smart Bottoms Superhero Smart One 3.1 Back of Smart Bottoms Superhero Smart One 3.1

On the outside of the diapers, the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1 both feature four rows of three torso snaps that allow the diaper to adjust in size between small, medium, large, and extra large. Both diapers fit babies between 8 and 35 pounds. My toddler daughter, who is 27 pounds, currently wears both on the large setting. The main exterior difference between the two versions of the diaper appears in the waist and hip snaps. The waist of the 3.0 is smaller than the 3.1, meaning that the diaper will not fit larger toddlers. The 3.0 also features two rows of only eight snaps while the 3.1 offers two rows of ten snaps. The 3.0 does offer hip snaps to prevent wing droop while the 3.1 does not.

Comparing Snaps of Smart Bottoms Spicy Tuna Smart One 3.0 and Superhero Smart One 3.1 Hip Snaps of Smart Bottoms Spicy Tuna Smart One 3.0 and Superhero Smart One 3.1

Inside the all-in-one diaper, both the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1 consist of 100% organic cotton for a trimmer, more absorbent diaper. The attached insert folds to provide up to ten layers of customizable absorbency. The tongue-style insert also means that both all-in-ones dry faster than other styles of all-in-one diapers with natural fibers. The insert on the 3.0 is slightly shorter than the insert on the 3.1.

Comparing Interior of Smart Bottoms Spicy Tuna Smart One 3.0 and Superhero Smart One 3.1 Comparing Inserts of Smart Bottoms Spicy Tuna Smart One 3.0 and Superhero Smart One 3.1

Upon comparing the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1 from Smart Bottoms, the only major difference is the sizing. With the added width around the waist and the additional snaps, the 3.1 will fit older toddlers for longer than the 3.0. I do, however, wish that the 3.1 also offer the hip snap of the 3.0. The slightly longer insert in the 3.1 also provides a little bit more absorbency than the 3.0.

In general, both the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1 perform almost identically. Because the fibers inside the diaper are natural, the diaper requires six to eight washings and drying to reach full absorbency. If you do not want to prep your diaper more than once before use, you will need to change your child more frequently until reaching a total of six to eight washes and dries. For my own daughter, I prepped both all-in-ones with an initial wash and dry. Both leaked fairly quickly. However, after repeatedly washing and drying both styles, the diapers increased in absorbency, reducing the leaking issues. In other words, you can skip the recommended prep of six to eight washings and dryings, but you will probably have to deal with some leaks until the natural cotton fibers reach full absorbency.

One feature of the Smart Bottoms all-in-one diapers with which I initially struggled was the non-encased leg elastic. All of my other diapers feature encased leg elastic. Despite repeated washes and dries, both the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1 continued to leak. However, once I figured out to roll the leg elastic under, the leaking issue stopped. Getting used to the non-encased leg elastic took me some time, but now I have no problem with the style.

My older toddler currently weighs 27 pounds. Both the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1 fit her perfectly. She wears both diapers on the large rise setting. She wears the 3.0 on the second waist snap setting in, meaning that she still has one set of snaps to go on both sides for a total of two extra sets of snaps. She wears the 3.1 on the second and third settings in, meaning that she still has one set of snaps on one side and two sets of snaps on the other side for a total of three extra sets of snaps. I am confident that both diapers will last her through potty training. Chunkier toddlers, however, may find that the 3.0 does not fit as long.

I personally like the 3.0 a little bit better than the 3.1, largely because of the inclusion of the hip snap. Because my toddler wears both diapers on larger settings around the waist, I find myself fighting some wing droop on the 3.1. I do not have the same problem with the 3.0 because of the hip snap. For future versions of the Smart One, I would love to see Smart Bottoms include the hip snap again.

Final Verdict: Although I had some problems with the style at first, I have come to really like both the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1 all-in-one cloth diapers from Smart Bottoms. The 3.1 is an updated version of the 3.0. The biggest difference between the two diapers is that the 3.1 offers a wide waist than the 3.0. I do wish the 3.1 also included the hip snap of the 3.0, but the slight wing droop that occurs on the newer version is minor. If you are shopping for an all-in-one cloth diaper with natural fibers inside, I recommend both the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1 from Smart Bottoms.

bumGenius Freetime and Elemental All-in-One Cloth Diaper Comparison Review

Front of bumGenius Sassy Freetime and Dazzle Elemental

Although I am a huge fan of all-in-two cloth diapers, I recently took a dive into the world of all-in-ones. I have long been a fan of Flip diaper covers, so adding two other Cotton Babies products to my stash was an easy jump. I recently purchased a bumGenuis Freetime all-in-one in Sassy (orange) and a bumGenius Elemental all-in-one in Dazzle (purple) to compare and review.

Front of bumGenius Sassy Freetime and Dazzle Elemental Back of bumGenius Sassy Freetime and Dazzle Elemental

Both the Freetime and the Elemental offer similar, if not identical, features. Both all-in-one diapers feature three rows of three torso snaps that allow the diapers to adjust between small, medium, and large sizes to fit babies between 8 and 35+ pounds. Two rows of waist snaps ensure a trim fit with every diaper change. The main difference between the two styles of cloth diaper is the interior material. The Freetime contains Stay Dry and microfiber while the Elemental contains 100% organic cotton. The two inserts on the Freetime are also loose on one side each while the two inserts on the Elemental are attached on both sides.

Front of bumGenius Sassy Freetime Back of bumGenius Sassy Freetime

Front of bumGenius Dazzle Elemental Back of bumGenius Dazzle Elemental

At 27 pounds, my toddler daughter currently wears both the Freetime and the Elemental on the medium rise setting. (Note: In the photos of the Elemental, I apparently did not snap the left and right snaps on the torso as a result of my pregnancy brain fog. However, she assuredly fits comfortably in the medium sizing on both diapers.) She also wears both diapers on the second and third settings in, meaning that she still has one set of snaps on one side and two sets of snaps on the other side for a total of three extra sets of snaps. I am confident that both diapers will last her through potty training.

In terms of prep, the Freetime is a bit easier because of the microfiber and Stay Dry material. One initial wash and dry is sufficient. The natural cotton material in the Elemental requires five to seven washes and dries in order for the fibers to reach full absorbency. If you do not want to prep your diaper more than once before use, you will need to change your child more frequently until reaching a total of five to seven washes and dries. The diaper may, however, leak until reaching maximum absorbency. After the initial prepping, both diapers perform about the same for my daughter. If you prefer natural fibers in your diapers, then I recommend the Elemental. If you refer synthetic fibers, then the Freetime is the diaper for you. I personally like the Freetime a little more, but only because I prefer Stay Dry material directly against my daughter’s skin.

Comparing Interior of bumGenius Sassy Freetime and Dazzle Elemental Comparing Inserts of bumGenius Sassy Freetime and Dazzle Elemental

The difference in fibers also affects the laundering of the Freetime versus the Elemental. Because of the natural fibers, the Elemental requires a longer dry time than the Freetime. I can hang my Freetime up to line dry overnight and wake up to a dry diaper. When airy drying, the Elemental requires at least double the time. I usually allow the Elemental to line dry for a while, and then I toss the diaper in the dryer to zap the remaining moisture. If time is a consideration, I recommend the Freetime over the Elemental because of the shorter dry time for the synthetic fibers.

The only other major difference between the Freetime and the Elemental is the price. The Freetime retails for $19.95 while the Elemental costs $24.95. Because I also prefer synthetic materials on my daughter, I also prefer the Freetime over the Elemental because of the significantly lower price.

In terms of use and function, I am extremely pleased with both the Freetime and the Elemental. I have yet to have any problems with leaks with either diaper. The elastic also effectively holds in solid messes. I generally prefer double leg gussets over single leg elastics, but the single leg elastics on both bumGenius works exceptionally to prevent moisture and messes from escaping the diaper. Both diapers are also easy to put on an active toddler, and both styles are easy to wash. The Freetime is slightly easier to dry than the Elemental, but drying both diapers is a cinch. I recommend both bumGenuis diapers to any parent searching for an all-in-one.

Final Verdict: If you are shopping for an all-in-one cloth diaper, I highly recommend both the Freetime and the Elemental from bumGenius. The only major differences between the two diapers are the interior material and the price. The Freetime contains Stay Dry and microfiber, and the Elemental contains organic cotton. The Freetime costs $19.95, and the Elemental costs $24.95. However, both all-in-ones fit almost identically, so I highly recommend either, with personal preference on material and price being the ultimate deciding factor.

You can purchase the Freetime and the Elemental from bumGenius from Nicki’s Diapers, Diaper Junction, Kelly’s Closet, and Kissed by the Moon.

Front of Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry and Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One Cloth Diapers

For over two and a half years, I primarily diapered my daughter with all-in-twos and covers with inserts. However, I recently ventured into the world of all-in-one diapers with much pleasure and success. A few weeks ago, I purchased an Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and an Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One to test and review.

Front of Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry and Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One Cloth Diapers Back of Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry and Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One Cloth Diapers

Price

Both the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One are more reasonably priced compared to other brands of all-in-ones. The Stay-Dry version currently retails for $12.95 at Nicki’s Diapers and the Bamboo version for $17.95. I purchased mine on sale for $10.95 and $14.95. Nicki’s Diapers often runs sales on the Imagine line of cloth diapers, so you rarely need to pay full price for either all-in-one.

Prints

I purchased the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One in the Ring-a-Ding print (gray with overlapping white circles) and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One in the Flutter print (white with butterfly print and light green interior). Both versions of the diaper come in a total of nine colors and prints.

Closures

Because I prefer snaps, I purchased both the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One in snap closures. Both versions also come in hook and loop closures. For both versions, the torso features three rows of three rise snaps that adjust the diaper to small, medium, and large rise settings. For the snap version, both diapers feature two rows of eight waist snaps. In other words, the snaps are identical on both versions of the Imagine all-in-one.

Inserts

Both the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One feature snap-in soaker pads. The Stay-Dry version snaps in on the front of the diaper while the Bamboo version snaps in on the back. The Bamboo version also includes a flap on the interior of the back of the diaper. Both soaker pads remain attached to the diaper during laundering, making both versions true all-in-one cloth diapers.

Aside from the placement of the snaps for the soaker pads, the main difference between the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One inserts is the material. The Stay-Dry version offers a four-layer microfiber insert topped with polar fleece. The interior of the Stay-Dry is also lined with super soft polar fleece to wick away moisture. The Bamboo version offers a four-layer bamboo insert. The interior of the Bamboo is lined with a buttery soft yet incredibly absorbent bamboo-cotton fabric.

Thus, the main difference between the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One is the material on the interior of the diaper. The stay-dry provides synthetic fibers and the bamboo natural fibers.

Fit

Both the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One fit my daughter almost identically. At 28 pounds, she can wear either the medium or the large rise setting. (For the photos, she wears the Ring-a-Ding on the large setting and the Flutter on the medium setting.) Imagine claims that both diapers fit babies between 8 and 35 pounds, and I am inclined to agree. The medium rise setting fits my daughter lower and more trimly than the large setting, meaning that I will probably continue using the medium setting on her for a few more pounds. She additionally has plenty of room to grow in the large setting.

In addition to fitting even older toddlers, gentle leg casings on both the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One prevent leaks while keeping a diapered baby comfortable. I personally like that I can slap either all-in-one on my daughter quickly without messing with unencased leg elastics. Diaper changes go extremely quickly when I am using my all-in-ones from Imagine.

I have not had any major problems with leaks with either version of the Imagine all-in-one.

Laundering

Because of the difference in interior material, the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One do wash and dry differently. First, for prep, the stay-dry version is a wash and go diaper. Simply wash and dry the diaper once before use. The bamboo version, however, requires a recommended three washes and dries before the initial use to prep the natural fibers. I do recommend washing and drying the bamboo all-in-one at least three times to achieve maximum absorbency. Otherwise, you will need to change the diaper more often at first.

In addition to requiring more prep, the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One also takes longer to dry than the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One. I like to hang my diapers to air dry. The stay-dry version dries fully within a couple hours. I then toss the diaper in the dryer for about ten minutes to zap any remaining moisture. If I only tumble dry the stay-dry version, then the diaper requires about an hour in the dryer. The bamboo version, however, takes much longer to dry, both hanging up and in the dryer. My bamboo diaper still feels slightly damp even after air drying in front of a fan for twelve hours. In the dryer alone, the bamboo requires almost two hours. I typically allow the bamboo version to dry overnight and then toss the diaper in my next full load of laundry to get rid of the remaining wetness. If time is a consideration, I recommend the stay-dry version of the Imagine all-in-one over the bamboo version.

Final Verdict

Within the one-size all-in-one line, Imagine offers nearly identical features in both the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One. Both versions offer the same colors and prints and both snap and hook and loop closures. The snaps on both diapers are the same, and the fit is pretty much identical. The main difference between the two all-in-ones is the price and the interior material. The bamboo version is more expensive than the stay-dry. The Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One also offers a synthetic microfiber and fleece interior while the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One offers a natural bamboo and cotton interior. The difference in interior material affects laundering times. If you are looking for a cheaper all-in-one, then I recommend the stay-dry version. I also recommend the stay-dry version if you want shorter wash and dry times. However, both versions perform similarly, so I highly recommend both the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One.

Despite my love of all-in-twos and covers, I recently took the plunge into the world of all-in-ones with great success and happiness. As a frequent shopper of Nicki’s Diapers, I have had my eye on the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One cloth diapers for a while now. A few weeks ago, I decided to add two of the bamboo all-in-ones to my stash.

Price

Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One is affordably priced compared to many other brands of all-in-ones. The diaper currently retails for $17.95 at Nicki’s Diapers. I purchased mine on sale for $14.95. Nicki’s Diapers often runs sales on the Nicki’s Diapers Exclusives line of cloth diapers, so you rarely need to pay full price for the bamboo all-in-one.

Prints

I purchased two Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One cloth diapers, one in Dreamsicle (orange) and one in Candy Cane Chevron (red and white chevron). Nicki’s Diapers currently offers a rainbow of solid colors, chevrons, and houndstooth prints. Additionally, the insides of many of the diapers coordinate with the outside. For example, the Dreamsicle features an orange bamboo interior that coordinates with the orange exterior.

Closures

Because I prefer snaps, I purchased the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One with snap closures. However, a hook and look closure is also available on all colors and prints. For both closure types, the torso features three rows of three rise snaps that adjust the diaper to small, medium, and large rise settings. For the snap version, the all-in-one features two rows of ten waist snaps plus one row of cross-over snaps for the smallest waist fit possible.

Inserts

Similar to the interior of the Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One, the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One features a snap-in soaker pad consisting of 70% bamboo and 30% cotton. The interior of the diaper consists of a super-soft bamboo blend terry. The diaper also includes a flap on the interior of the back of the diaper that covers the soaker pad snaps. More importantly, the soaker pad remains attached to the diaper during laundering, making the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One a true all-in-one cloth diaper. Nothing annoys me more than a snap-in all-in-one diaper that comes apart in the wash!

Fit

At 28 pounds, my toddler daughter currently wears the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One on the medium rise setting. Nicki’s Diapers recommends 8 to 15 pounds for the small rise, 15 to 23 pounds for the medium rise, and 23 to 35+ pounds for the large size. However, my daughter is definitely more comfortable in the medium setting, although she can wear the large setting with some extra bulkiness on her belly. She is definitely a low-rider type of girl already! Additionally, because she still wears the all-in-one on the medium setting, I am confident that the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One will fit her well past potty training!

Around the waist, my daughter wears the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One on the second snap in on one side and the third snap in on the other, leaving five open snaps in the middle. At a little over two and a half years old, she still has plenty of room around the waist with this all-in-one. Again, I am confident that the entire diaper will last my toddler well past potty training.

The only feature of the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One that I do not love is the unencased leg elastics. Getting a proper leak-free fit means taking a little extra time to make sure the leg elastics roll under the insider of the diaper properly. Otherwise, some of the bamboo interior  remains exposed, causing wicking and leak issues. Instead of simply slapping the diaper on my daughter during diaper changes, I must take a few minutes to roll the unencased leg elastics properly. My daughter holds still pretty well for most of her changes, but the unencased leg elastic may pose some problems for more active babies and toddlers. I would prefer encased leg elastics on future versions of the all-in-one.

Overall, I have not had any major leak issues with the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One. The key is to roll the leg elastics under completely to avoid wicking.

Laundering

Because of the natural fibers in the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One, the diaper requires additional prep and longer dry times than similar diapers made from synthetic materials. First, the diaper requires a recommended three washes and dries before the initial use to prep the natural fibers. I do recommend washing and drying the bamboo all-in-one at least three times to achieve maximum absorbency. Otherwise, you will need to change the diaper more often at first.

The Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One also takes longer to dry than similar all-in-ones with synthetic soakers and interiors. I like to hang my diapers to air dry but have found that the bamboo interior of this all-in-one requires at least twelve hours in front of a fan to air dry completely. The bamboo then still feels slightly damp, so I usually toss the diaper in the dryer for a bit to zap any remaining moisture. In the dryer alone, the bamboo requires almost two hours. I typically allow the bamboo version to dry overnight and then toss the diaper in my next full load of laundry to get rid of the remaining wetness. If time is a consideration, the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One may not be the all-in-one for you.

Final Verdict

If you are searching for an all-in-one cloth diaper that offers natural fibers, I highly recommend the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One. At $17.95, the retail price is more affordable than many other brands of bamboo all-in-ones. Other positives of the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One include the rainbow of colors available, the availability of both snap and hook and loop closures, the bamboo-cotton soaker pads, and the extended fit for older toddlers. The only two negatives for me are the unencased leg elastics and the longer dry time due to the natural fibers. However, if you are a fan of bamboo cloth diapers, I highly recommend the Nicki’s Diapers One-Size Bamboo All-in-One!

Although I am definitely a fan of all-in-twos and covers with various inserts, I have recently made the journey into the world of all-in-one cloth diapers with much success. I am also a huge fan of the Halloween holiday. Thus, when Winning Colors Baby recently offered me a chance to review a semi-custom Halloween-themed all-in-one, I accepted the opportunity with gusto!

About Winning Colors Baby

Located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Winning Colors Baby offers custom creations including cloth diapers, clothing, and accessories for your little winner. Shop owner and WAHM Lindsey McGovern makes all-in-ones, all-in-twos, and covers including semi-custom diaper in the fabric of your choice. Lindsey takes pride in offering a semi-custom product for everyone. Some of her options include snap color choices and inner fabric choices (microfleece or suedecloth). She also hopes to soon include a natural bamboo jersey option for babies who are sensitive to synthetic materials. She loves working on custom orders and helping clients create personalized, one-of-a-kind products that cannot be purchased anywhere else.  Learn more about Winning Colors Baby on Facebook and HyenaCart.

Price

Semi-custom diapers from Winning Colors Baby range in price from $20 to $30. Covers cost $5 less than all-in-ones and all-in-twos. One-size diapers cost $5 more than sized diapers. I received a large all-in-one with side snaps that retails for $30. Compared to similar semi-custom cloth diaper WAHM shops, I consider the diapers from Winning Colors Baby reasonably priced. Compared to name brand all-in-ones, Winning Colors Baby diapers retail for only slightly more, and you get a semi-custom design! I therefore rate the pricing very highly.

Materials and Construction

I reviewed an adorable all-in-one diaper from Winning Colors Baby. The exterior of the large sized diaper features both black and orange/white chevron PUL with a Jack o’ lantern appliqué on the bum and side snaps. The interior soaker of the all-in-one consists of a mix of bamboo fleece and Zorb covered with microfleece. (All-in-two soakers features the same mix of bamboo and Zorb covered with cotton velour.)

Looking at the construction of the diaper, I find even stitching that I consider extremely professional. In fact, if I did not know that Winning Colors Baby was a WAHM shop, I would believe that my diaper were commercially sewn. I am definitely impressed with the overall design and construction of this all-in-one.

Laundering

Because I am pretty lazy in the laundry room, I require a cloth diaper that fits into my current cloth diaper laundry routine, and my all-in-one from Winning Colors Baby fits in perfectly! On laundry day, I toss my diaper pail full of dirty diapers including my Winning Colors Baby all-in-one in my washing machine for a warm heavy wash with some Rockin’ Green and OxiClean followed by two cold rinses. I then allow the clean diaper to air dry in a front of fan on my drying rack. Because of the design of the soaker on the diaper, I do always also toss the dry diaper in my dry for 10 to 20 minutes to zap any remaining moisture. I again rate my all-in-one from Winning Colors Baby very highly in terms of ease of washing and drying.

Performance

My toddler daughter weighs roughly twenty-eight pounds at the moment, and the large all-in-one from Winning Colors Baby fits her perfectly while offering some room to grow. Around the waist, the diaper offers two rows of three snaps. My daughter currently wears the diaper on the further snaps in on one side and the middle snaps on the other, meaning that she has three more snaps into which to grow. Around the legs, my all-in-one from Winning Colors Baby fits my daughter snugly but not too tight. I can see room for growth in the crotch area — but not so much that gaping occurs causing leaks. I am confident that the large size will continue to fit my daughter for many more months.

On the first day that my daughter wore her all-in-one from Winning Colors Baby, my family and I were out and about doing some fun fall family activities together. Because of all the excitement, I completely forgot to change my daughter for seven hours! However, I am happy to announce that the diaper did not leak at all. With more typical use, my Winning Colors Baby all-in-one lasts two to four hours before leaking depending on the amount that my daughter drinks. In other words, the all-in-one from Winning Colors Baby performs similarly to the other all-in-ones in my stash in terms of length of time before complete saturation and leaking. The diaper also effectively contains solids without any issues.

Although my daughter is not a super soaker, I have found that I can easily add an additional soaker inside my Winning Colors Baby all-in-one to increase the absorbency. When I know that my daughter will be super active or in the same diaper for longer than usual such as on weekends when my family and I head out on adventures together, I lay an extra insert on top of the sewn-in soaker pad. The leg elastic remains snug while the additional inserts offers a boost of protection against leaks. Winning Colors Baby offers all-in-two soakers (as described above) for $10.00 each.

All in all, I am extremely pleased with the performance of my all-in-one from Winning Colors Baby. I will also add that my daughter loves her pumpkin bum diaper. High praise indeed from a very opinionated little girl!

Final Verdict

If you are a fan of semi-custom cloth diapers, I highly recommend checking out Winning Colors Baby. Both my daughter and I absolutely adore the semi-custom Jack o’ lantern all-in-one that I received to review. For semi-custom diapers, I consider the price of the diaper extremely reasonable. The materials and construction of the diaper are comparable to commercially produced diapers, meaning that I could not tell my Winning Colors Baby all-in-one came from a WAHM shop had I not known the diaper was handmade. Laundering the diaper fits perfectly into my current wash routine, and the diaper performs above and beyond my expectations for an all-in-one. My daughter and I give the all-in-one from Winning Colors four enthusiastic thumbs up!

BubbyBums Newborn All-in-One and Preemie Cloth Diaper Review

Front of BubbyBums Newborn All-in-One and BubbyBums Preemie Cloth Diapers

Before the birth of my son in October, I collected a small stash of newborn cloth diapers. Although I have a huge stash of one-size diapers, I wanted to have some smaller options on hand in case my second baby was smaller than eight pounds at birth. Because my son weighed seven pounds at birth, I am definitely glad that I decided to invest in some newborn diapers.

In addition to buying a small stash of newborn cloth diapers, I had also been on the lookout for new brands to try and test. When BubbyBums Children’s Boutique posted about a review opportunity earlier this summer, I eagerly replied for a chance to review a newborn cloth diaper. BubblyBums agreed to the review and sent me a newborn all-in-one and a preemie all-in-one.

About BubbyBums

BubbyBums is a small family-run business in North Texas owned by Stacey Humphreys. When she found herself raising a grandchild who needed cloth training pants, Stacey found herself shocked by the price of other brands. As a sewing enthusiast since the age of 9, she decided to sew her own training pants. After suggestions that she sell her creations online, she opened shop on Hyena Cart, Etsy, and eBay and eventually developed her own website. Cloth training pants are a staple of BubbyBums. The store also sells cloth diapers and other accessories for children.

Price

I received two diapers from BubbyBums: newborn all-in-one and preemie all-in-one. The newborn all-in-one costs $8.00 with discounts for bulk purchases of five to seven ($7.20 each) and eight or more ($6.80 each). A dozen preemie diapers costs $84.00, or $7.00 per diaper. Both the newborn and preemie diapers are priced significantly lower than other similar brands of all-in-ones, making BubbyBums an extremely affordable cloth diapering option.

Design

The imported newborn all-in-one from BubbyBums features an outer layer of PUL and an inner lining of soft fleece with a sewn-in soaker of bamboo and microfiber terry. Internal gussets help contain messes. The front of the diaper features a single row of eight snaps and an umbilical cord snap. The wings on the back of the diaper feature three snaps for a secure fit around the waist. Available in a handful of solid colors and measuring approximately 6 inches wide, BubbyBums newborn all-in-one cloth diapers fit babies between 6 and 12 pounds.

Made in the United States, the preemie all-in-one from BubbyBums features an outer layer of PUL and an inner lining of soft fleece with a sewn-in soaker of absorbent hemp/organic cotton fleece, micro fiber terry, and cotton. Velcro closures around the waist ensure a perfect fit for premature newborns between 2 and 5.5 pounds. The BubbyBums preemie all-in-one comes in an assortment of solid colors and prints and measures approximately 5 inches wide.

Laundering

As I have previously admitted, I am pretty lazy in the laundry room. I thus require a cloth diaper that fits into my current laundry routine, and both the newborn and the preemie all-in-ones from BubbyBums fit into my stash perfectly. (Note: I washed and dried the preemie diaper only once because my son weighed seven pounds at birth and did not require the preemie size.) On laundry day, I toss my diaper pail full of dirty diapers including my BubbyBums newborn all-in-one in my washing machine for a warm heavy wash with some Rockin’ Green and OxiClean followed by two cold rinses. I then allow the clean diaper to air dry in a front of fan on my drying rack. Because of the sewn-in soaker, I also always toss the air-dried diaper in my dryer for 10 to 20 minutes to zap any remaining moisture. I rate both the newborn and the preemie all-in-ones from BubbyBums very highly in terms of ease of washing and drying.

Performance

My son weighed exactly 7 pounds at birth. He dropped down to approximately 6.5 pounds during his first week but quickly gained the weight back and continued adding on ounces. The newborn all-in-one from BubbyBums fit him at birth and continues to fit him at three weeks old. (Note: I will update my review as soon as my son stops fitting into his BubbyBums diaper.)

To accommodate his umbilical cord, I first used the BubbyBums newborn all-in-one on my son with the umbilical cord dip fastened. Once his cord stump fell off at five days old, I unfastened the snap. The diaper fits him well around the waist in both configurations.

At birth, my son wore the BubbyBums newborn all-in-one on the smallest waist setting. Now at three weeks old, he still wears the diaper on the smallest waist setting. He also has plenty of vertical room left in which to grow. I am therefore confident that this all-in-one will fit him through 12 pounds if not longer.

Because of the natural bamboo material in the soaker of the BubbyBums newborn all-in-one, the diaper does require multiple washes and dries to achieve maximum absorbency. My son tends to pee a lot all at once, so he often leaks through his diapers. The newborn all-in-one from BubbyBums generally lasts him between one and two hours before leaking. However, I have been able to add a booster insert, which allows the diaper to last a bit longer. Additionally, although two hours is an okay length of time for a cloth diaper, I would like BubbyBums to add a few more layers of absorbency to this all-in-one to increase the useable leak-free time.

Of all the features present on the BubbyBums newborn all-in-one, I appreciate the internal gusset the most. I exclusively breastfeed my son, so his newborn poop is yellow and seedy. During his first week, he experienced some jaundice that resulted in treatment with a bili-blanket that resulted in darker but extremely moist poops. My BubbyBums diaper has contained all of the poop without any problems. I therefore rate the newborn all-in-one extremely highly in terms of containing solid waste.

Final Verdict

At $8.00 or less each, the newborn all-in-one from BubbyBums is an inexpensive option for cloth diapering a new baby. Easy to wash and dry, this newborn diaper features an umbilical cord dip that allows for better healing of the belly button. Although I would like the soaker to include a little more absorbency to increase the time between diaper changes, the internal gussets effectively contain solid messes. The diaper is also roomy enough to add an extra booster, and I am confident that this all-in-one will last my son through at least 12 pounds. If you are searching for an economical newborn cloth diaper, I recommend checking out the BubbyBums newborn all-in-one.

TushMate All-in-One Newborn Cloth Diaper Review

Front of TushMate All-in-One Newborn Cloth Diaper

My son made his debut into the world a little over a month ago. Although I knew that I wanted to cloth diaper him from birth, I did not start my fluff obsession with my daughter until about three months into her life. Thus, during my pregnancy, I began creating a small stash of newborn diapers. When TushMate recently offered me the chance to review the TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to add to my stash.

TushMate All-in-One Newborn Cloth Diaper Package

Price

The TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper currently retails for $15.98 per diaper. Compared to other newborn all-in-ones, I consider the diaper moderately priced. Both less expensive and pricier all-in-ones for newborn also exist on the market.

Colors

TushMate currently offers only four colors of newborn all-in-ones: orange, yellow, blue, and chocolate (brown). I received the chocolate, which I like as a neutral color for boys and girls. Compared to other brands, TushMate offers only a limited number of colors.

Front of TushMate All-in-One Newborn Cloth Diaper Back of TushMate All-in-One Newborn Cloth Diaper

Closures

I generally prefer snap closures on my cloth diapers, but TushMate currently offers the newborn all-in-one only in a hook and loop closure. However, compared to the few other hook and loop diapers in my stash, I rate the TushMate hook and loop extremely highly. The hook fasteners are incredibly strong both on the waist band and on the laundry tabs. I have to pulled fairly hard on to lift the fasteners. The fasteners stay firmly attached to the diaper when in use and to the laundry tabs during washing. I would definitely buy more hook and loop diapers from TushMate based on the quality of the closures.

Additionally, the TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper features two rows of two snaps on the torso that allow the diaper to adjust between small and large rise settings. At birth, my seven pound son wore the diapers on the small setting. Now at five weeks old, he still uses the small setting. TushMate suggests that the diaper fits babies between 5 and 14 pounds. I am confident that the newborn all-in-one from TushMate will last my son for quite a while into his infancy. (Note: I will update my review as soon as my son stops fitting into his TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper.)

Inserts

The insert design of the TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper is different from the other all-in-ones in my stash. The tongue-style hemp/organic cotton insert is sewn to the underside of the semi-attached liner. The liner is sewn onto the back of the diaper but semi-attached to the front interior with two plastic snaps. Made from fleece to wick moisture away from delicate skin, the liner lifts up for easier laundering. The open design also allows for additional inserts for extra protection inside the diaper. I received a microfiber booster with my diaper that I always tuck into the diaper along with the attached natural insert.

Natural Insert of TushMate All-in-One Newborn Cloth Diaper Natural and Microfiber Inserts of TushMate All-in-One Newborn Cloth Diaper

Laundering

As I have previously stated, I am pretty lazy in the laundry room. I thus require a cloth diaper that fits into my current laundry routine. The TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper fits perfectly into my laundering style. On laundry day, I toss my diaper pail full of dirty diapers including my newborn TushMate in my washing machine for a warm heavy wash with some Rockin’ Green and OxiClean followed by two cold rinses. I then toss the microfiber insert into my dryer and allow the  diaper to air dry in a front of fan on my drying rack. Because of the attached natural insert, I also always toss the air-dried diaper in my dryer for 10 to 20 minutes to zap any remaining moisture.

At first I thought that I would not like the TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper very much because inserting the microfiber booster reminds me too much of a pocket diaper, and I am not a fan of pockets. Although I do have to put the booster back in the clean diaper, the booster usually comes out in the washer because the liner snaps unsnap during laundering. Because I have to unsnap the snaps anyway to put the insert and booster back inside the diaper, I appreciate that the interior snaps are so loose.

Additionally, the hook fasteners remain firmly attached to the laundry tabs during washing and drying. Nothing is worse than hook and loop diapers sticking to other diapers in the washer or dryer. The TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper passes the laundry test with flying colors in terms of the hook and loop closures.

Performance

My son weighed 7 pounds at birth, and TushMate recommends a weight range of 5 to 14 pounds for the newborn all-in-one. I was thus able to use the diaper on him from birth. Putting the diaper on him is incredibly easy. After adjusting the rise settings, I simply place the diaper on him and secure the hook and loop waist fasteners. Because the hook fasteners so firmly attach to the loop laundry tabs, I do recommend lifting the fasteners first. Otherwise, you will find yourself struggling to lift the fasteners while hoping that your newborn does not start peeing!

In terms of absorbency, I rate the TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper moderately. I consider my son a fairly heavy wetter. With both the hemp/organic cotton insert and the microfiber booster, my son can wear the Tushmate all-in-one for about two hours without leaks. However, after two hours, the diaper usually leaks.

Although the TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper lasts my son only two hours before leaking, I do rate the diaper extremely highly in terms of mess containment. EBF (exclusively breastfed) poop is quite liquidy compared to toddler poop. However, the all-in-one from TushMate has efficiently contained all the poop that my son has thrown at the diaper. Therefore, although I would love the diaper to provide a bit more absorbency, I am incredibly pleased with the poop containment.

Final Verdict

If you are searching for an all-in-one diaper for your newborn, I recommend the TushMate all-in-one newborn cloth diaper. Moderately priced at $15.98 each, the diaper also offers moderate absorbency. My favorite features are the ultra-secure hook and loop closures and the effective poop containment provided by the diaper. Additionally, the two rise settings allow the diaper to fit newborns and infants between 5 and 14 pounds, meaning the newborn all-in-one from TushMate will last much longer than many other brands of newborn diapers.

Smart Bottoms Born Smart Newborn Diaper Review

Back of Emerson Smart Bottoms Born Smart Newborn Diaper

While putting a small newborn stash together for my second baby, I decided to buy some all-in-ones to try. Back in August, Smart Bottoms offered some sales. In addition to Smart One 3.0 and Smart One 3.1 all-in-one cloth diapers, I also purchased a Born Smart Newborn diaper to test and review on my son.

Front of Emerson Smart Bottoms Born Smart Newborn Diaper Back of Emerson Smart Bottoms Born Smart Newborn Diaper

Price

Smart Bottoms currently sells the Born Smart Newborn diaper for $18 each. Compared to other brands of organic newborn all-in-ones on the market, the Born Smart Newborn diaper is comparatively priced within the higher range. However, despite the higher price tag per diaper, I feel that the diaper is fairly priced based on all the features.

Prints

I purchased the Born Smart Newborn diaper in the Emerson print, which is a blue, gold, and green print with green snaps. Along with Emerson, Smart Bottoms currently offers the diaper in ten prints and colors. I would like to see some more variety in the future, but Smart Bottoms does currently offer some cute newborn diapers including the adorable purple with orange snaps Monster.

Closures

I prefer snaps, so I was delighted to find that the Born Smart Newborn diaper comes only in snap closures. The torso features two rows of two snaps that allow the diaper to adjust between small and large rise settings. The waist features a single row of eight snaps and a single snap on each hip snap. The diaper adjusts to fit babies between the recommended weights of 6 and 16 pounds. The front of the diaper additionally includes an umbilical notch to better accommodate healing belly buttons.

Inserts

The Born Smart Newborn diaper is an organic all-in-one newborn diaper. The interior of the diaper boasts three layers of organic cotton sewn in to the diaper and an additional four-layer snap-in insert that unsnaps for easier washing and drying. The natural fibers make the diaper quite trim while providing excellent absorbency.

Insert of Emerson Smart Bottoms Born Smart Newborn Diaper Pocket of Emerson Smart Bottoms Born Smart Newborn Diaper

Laundering

As I often admit, I am lazy in the laundry room. Any new diaper that I add to my stash must fit in with my current laundry routine. Between washes, I store my dirty diapers in a diaper pail. On laundry day, I wash my diapers on warm with detergent and OxiClean followed by two cold rinses. The Born Smart Newborn diaper fits perfectly into my current routine.

To dry my newborn all-in-one from Smart Bottoms, I usually allow the entire diaper to dry on a drying rack in front of a fan. Once almost dry, I toss the diaper in my dryer to zap any remaining moisture. If I am in a rush, I sometimes toss the entire diaper and insert in the dryer. The insert also unsnaps for faster drying.

Because the fibers inside the Born Smart Newborn diaper are natural, the diaper requires six to eight washings and drying to reach full absorbency. If you do not want to prep your diaper more than once before use, you will need to change your newborn more frequently until reaching a total of six to eight washes and dries. Because I did not fully prep the one-size version and ended up experiencing some leaks with my toddler daughter, I did fully prep my Born Smart Newborn diaper.

Performance

At birth, my son weighed seven pounds and wore his Born Smart Newborn diaper on the small rise setting and on the third waist snap in on both sides. By seven weeks and eleven pounds, he wore the all-in-one on the large rise setting and on the second waist snap in on both sides. He still has some room to grow, and I will update my review once he outgrows the diaper.

One feature of all the Smart Bottoms all-in-one diapers with which I initially struggled was the non-encased leg elastic. All of my other diapers feature encased leg elastic. Even after fully prepping both the Smart One 3.0 and the Smart One 3.1, I continued to experience some leaking issues with my daughter. Eventually I figured out to roll the leg elastic under, and the leaking stopped. Getting used to the non-encased leg elastic on the one-size versions took me some time, but, because I had figured out the style already, I did not have any problems with adjusting the Born Smart Newborn diaper.

I consider my son a fairly heavy wetter. When wearing a high quality diaper, he goes two to four hours between diaper changes during the day and up to 12 hours overnight. The only time that I have had problems with leaks during the day with my Born Smart Newborn diaper is when I have gone too long between diaper changes. The diaper lasts my son up to four hours. I could use the all-in-one at night with an extra insert immediately after the birth of my son. However, by seven weeks old, he needed a bulkier insert combo overnight such as the Smart Bottoms one-size with a booster. I therefore prefer the Born Smart Newborn diaper during the day.

Final Verdict

The Born Smart Newborn diaper is one of my favorite diapers with which I initially diapered my newborn son. With waist and rise snaps, the diaper adjust to fit most babies between 6 and 16 pounds. The natural fibers allow the newborn all-in-one to remain trim fitting while providing maximum absorbency. I love that the insert unsnaps for easier drying. Although I had some trouble with the unencased leg elastics at first, I quickly figured out the style. My only suggestion is for Smart Bottoms to offer even more prints and colors for the newborn diaper. If you are searching for an organic all-in-one for your new baby, I highly recommend the Born Smart Newborn diaper.
